We presented today, it went alright, not as great as it could have went but that's alright. We didn't get everything we wanted finished for the game but we had a rough time frame considering the 21 snow days and the screwed up schedule due to Westests. But Globaloria is finished forever! Today is my last B Day of high school, I'm so freaking excited. Tomorrow is my last A Day ever and Friday is the Senior Awards Assembly then I'm finished with this place!!! Till graduation at least... But I can deal with that, thank the Lord that I'm finished with high school.

It's Wednesday, I had my AP French test Monday and I wasn't exactly fond of it... But I'm very relieved to be finished with it. Tomorrow is the AP English test and after that's over a little stress will be relieved. I've got to begin my senior portfolio, read about 325 pages in Catch-22, fill out graduation invites, turn in job applications, finish choreography for my senior solo, and pray that the new tutu I chose is not discontinued... Oh yeah, and finish this dang game too. Ugh, too much to do with no time :/ ... On the brightside, I finally got my prom dress! It's pink and frilly and girly and wonderful and I absolutely love it!! Too bad it has to be altered... Gotta buy prom tickets, order the boutonniere, pick a hairstyle, figure out how to do my nails, find jewelry. I'm a little lacking on sleep too, six hours every night just isn't cutting it... But ohhh well, in exactly one month today, I'll be graduating! Thank goodness, I need summer now!

Still can't make my mountain work. Twenty days left of school for seniors, I can't wait to graduate because I'm so sick of being at school everyday. is now the current month. I always forget to blog, gotta work on remembering that. But anyway, only 32 days left of school now, so in reality it's about 28 or so cause of other events taking place... Or something like that. I can't wait to graduate but first we [the team and I] must finish our game first. So yeah, we're working on that, getting more animation and fancier screens I suppose. We did a timeline last class so we know what we're doing and when and all that jazz... Hopefully we won't get behind any... But that's all for now until this afternoon.

Andrew is still working on our other two characters, hopefully he'll finish them relatively soon so we can start piecing our game together more. Today is finally Friday, yay! I can't wait to go home and enjoy the sunshine and (halfway) warm temperatures tomorrow and Sunday. It has been a very long week, too long actually. Andrew finished our rich guy character and we got him to wave, so drawings are coming along and Erica is getting buttons to work and all that good stuff so we're doing well so far (knock on wood). do I keep forgetting to blog? Oh how I wish it were summer... But anyway, Friday in class we were on a delay schedule so we didn't have as much time. We watched a video about drawing in Flash and although one might think they know everything already, I actually did learn a few things like pressing spacebar and dragging the screen allows you to move without having to use the scroll bars...

So Wednesday we learned about drawing (yet again) and also layers in Flash. There were tutorials on the internet that we went over and they explained that it's better to make everything have its own layer so you can work with one thing at a time and you won't mess up any other drawings you have, etc... I think we're gonna learn about key frames soon which will be helpful since that's a very major part of the game design process... But this is all I have for now, I'll blog again a little later.

A Flash Game vs Guitar Hero

Well we are supposed to compare our favorite flash game to our favorite game on a console... So I guess I will do that. But I really don't have a favorite flash game...so I sorta have a dilemma. But I guess I do have a favorite "console game." That would have to be Guitar Hero. So I'll write about that for now until I determine what my favorite flash game can be. I don't really play flash games all too often. I played one here at school once called I Love Traffic. I kinda liked it...but it was very frustrating at times. So for my two games I will compare Guitar Hero and I Love Traffic.

I am not sure if I should count the preceding paragraph as one of the three paragraphs we were assigned to write. I didn't really compare the two games so I think I'll just disregard it... And I'm not too sure if this is supposed to be formal or informal? I feel as if everything should be well developed and all my thoughts completed... I don't know, maybe I've just had too much of Mr. Smead.

Okay let's disregard that paragraph too.

The two games I am going to compare are Guitar Hero and I Love Traffic. Both games are extremely different, not only referring to the objective, but also the graphics, controls, and animation. The objective of Guitar Hero is to master a number of songs on a certain difficulty. The objective of I Love Traffic is to direct a number of vehicles through traffic lights without causing any collisions or traffic jams.

So as anyone can see, the objectives are nothing alike at all. The controls are also nothing alike, seeing as I Love Traffic is a computer game and Guitar Hero is a PlayStation 3 game (for me at least). I guess the arrow keys are similar though... So I shouldn't write it off completely although everything is else is entirely different.

And last, the animations and graphics. Of course the graphics are nothing alike, seeing as I Love Traffic features cars, trucks, buses, and ambulances, while Guitar Hero features a scrolling fret board containing notes while a band plays in the background. Guitar Hero is going to be much more advanced as anyone would assume, but I Love Traffic is not the easiest either. Both games have levels that become increasingly difficult as the player advances through the game but I think that is about as much as I can come up with for now about this topic. Until next time...

Today we finished the rest of the questions on the team wiki. We assigned roles to the members of our group and Andrew temporarily lost his character drawing but luckily recovered it. Mr. Warfield also suggested adding more levels to our game, such as dynamite fishing or saving the rainforest. Hopefully we'll be able to get started soon after this.

And a dollar short...but only because Kevin needed to borrow a dollar. Well yesterday in Globaloria we worked on the team page a little bit... We didn't get to answer all of the questions because class was shorter due to a two hour delay. We will finish the remainder of the questions tomorrow in class and also assign roles to each member in the group. Andrew finished drawing one of our characters so as far as graphics are concerned, that is going pretty well so far. We're going to have to work a little faster since we had a whole week of snow days... But I'm not complaining, extra sleep is always nice :)

We had another guest speaker yesterday in class...not from the Greenbrier, but rather from the World Wide Workshop Foundation. His name was David and he talked to all of us about our games and our plans and how we've been doing so far. He gave us some insight along with two other ladies who were on the phone. I think it was beneficial hearing different opinions and getting suggestions from people who know what they're doing. It seems things are coming together pretty nicely for the class... Now if only applying for college was going that smoothly...

I didn't get to blog again at the end of class... We had a guest speaker from the Greenbrier the last part of the class, he told us a lot of the history of the hotel. It was pretty interesting. Well I left school early yesterday to go home and get ready to go to Charleston to see the Radio City Rockettes! They are absolutely amazing, words can't even describe. Actually perfect would describe them well. But yeah, I saw them last year and they were just as great. I want to be one soooo bad but sadly I am not tall enough... It's really quite depressing but nothing I can do about it. I got to experiment with Warfield's new drawing pad...it's soo cool! It's really weird, takes some adjusting, but once you get it, it's fun. It'll be really helpful with the games too, I wish I was a better drawer that way I could actually use it to make something nice...Once again, all I can say is oh well. It's all good though.

They update frequently which is always a good thing and will hopefully motivate our class to do the same. Well I need to blog and I have to do it at school because something terrible has happened at home - my computer will not boot. It runs the Window screen then brings up the boot menu... It will not run normally, it will not run in the last known good configuration, and it will not run in safe mode. This only leads me to believe that my computer is most definitely messed up... And of course I haven't backed up any of my stuff, yes I have a lot of my music on cds, most of my documents are old essays or schoolwork, and most of the software can just be reinstalled or downloaded again. But what concerns me most is my photos. I could lose all of them. And I'm quite upset about it. I don't know what's wrong with it, I don't want to lose my pictures... I don't even want to lose my old documents... I hate computer problems!

I haven't blogged in awhile, been kinda busy. So to start, I'll say I saw Metallica last weekend and it was amazing!!! Of course I wouldn't expect any less. I got a new phone yesterday for my birthday (which is Sunday). It's a Samsung Caliber, it's pretty sweet and I think I really like it although I'm currently trying to find software so I can sync it to my computer...that's not going so well. Yesterday was a B day so we had Globaloria. We are now split into teams and that means we can finally start making some real progress on our game...first step is to choose a game topic though, I'm sure that'd be very helpful :P

Food and the Weekend

Today is Friday and I am pumped for the weekend! Tonight is homecoming (hope it doesn't rain) and tomorrow is the Metallica concert! It will be eventful. I probably should be studying for my trig test right now but oh well...I need to blog. Two days ago, I got free pizza in the dean's office again! I love that woman from Pizza Hut who comes to pick up her son. She might just be my favorite person in the world. That's kind of extreme but free pizza is always a treat :) I need to catch up on my sleep, I'm tired. I can't really bend my left index finger either cause that darn kitten scratched my finger right where it bends. Mr. Whitt definitely just gave us all in class little caramels. I don't really like caramel but I'll eat it anyway. I'm thirsty now.. And drawing in flash is half way fun sometimes, I'm sure it'd be a blast if I was actually good at drawing though...

Today is Tuesday, October 13. In other words, my birthday is eighteen days away! But closer to that is the Metallica concert I'm going to on Saturday! I have to miss Bridge Day... But I'm sure there will be many more Bridge Days to come. After all, it's not everyday that someone has the chance to see Metallica. It's gonna be loud... It'll be fun. My new kitten remains unnamed though, he's pretty mean for a little guy. Or maybe he just likes to play, that's probably it. He's so funny though, he jumps in the litter box just to throw the litter around.. Hah. My other cat doesn't like him too much though... Hopefully he'll come around but I don't blame him if he doesn't. But that's all for now, until next time...

Drawing in flash is alright...I like writing in it more cause it makes the letters look cool. I am not very creative with drawing, I never know what to draw or how to draw it. It's cold and my gmail is taking a long time to load. It's not like I get email on that account anyway but oh well. My flash mini game has improved greatly from day number one. I am slowly learning just as everyone else is. It's Tuesday and it's an A-day which means I have earth science 4th block. I hope we don't do vocabulary. I hate vocabulary. I can now say that I've had my first ever experience with Adobe Flash CS3 Professional. And I can also say that it is not easy at all! I guess after awhile I'll adjust to it but it's just weird because I have never worked with anything like Flash in my life. It's basically learning a new language. I tried to make my bunny move today in my mini game project. My carrot moved just fine but that darn bunny was deadset on remaining still. After many numerous and unsuccessful attempts to make the bunny move, I finally figured out what was wrong! I didn't have the last little swirly end bracket thing. I suppose it has to be there along with another one to end the last typed code. Wish I would have known that earlier. Then I wouldn't have gotten so irritated at that darn red bunny. But hey, practice makes perfect, right?

So I believe that I am supposed to blog about the games I played yesterday. So I will do that. I played 3rd World Farmer (the professional game) and Learn the Bones (the student made game). Of course, 3rd World Farmer was much better than Learn the Bones but what else would someone expect? I gotta give any game designer credit though, I'm sure it's not easy...nothing is really easy in the world. But I guess I enjoyed 3rd World Farmer, although I was slightly angered that two of my family members died and I had no idea they were even sick. And also all of the disasters and whatnot that occured...yeah, they made me mad too. I just wanted to grow a nice farm and have a nice family...guess it's not that easy though. On a different note, Learn the Bones was sort of fun. I wouldn't really call myself a fan of bones but I suppose I learned a few things from this game... It was not that difficult to begin with but like I said earlier, I still give the creators credit. As for my own class, I really have no idea what sort of game we should design. I hope I don't have to give any ideas cause honestly, I have none. I'll leave that sort of thing to those people with minds more creative than a dancer's.

Yay I am finally getting my blog to look how I want it! I'm kinda fascinated by these autosaving drafts...It's very helpful though. Well yesterday, everyone in class got their wiki set up. Now we just have to learn how to use them. Jordan is anticipating making the video game but of course we can't attempt that until we get our wikis ready and good to go. I really like these keyboards. Just a random thought, maybe I just appreciate the spacebar a lot because I spilt grape juice on my keyboard at home a few months ago and now the it only works when you press it directly in the middle. So it's a little irritating. Maybe I should just buy a new keyboard but I really don't want to cause mine has these very, very, very convenient little cut, copy, and paste buttons on the side...I love them. But yeah...enough about that. I'm really looking forward to advancing with our globaloria work, I'm eager to see what's going to happen next. I'm also determined to master wiki coding (I guess that's what you'd call it?) cause it's just a little odd...or a lot. It's interesting to view other students' wikis and blogs too and see what kind of progress they've made. But it's almost lunch time and this is long enough already, so I'm gonna post this and carry on with my work... Until tomorrow? Maybe.

Alrighty so here we go. My name is Jessica, feel free to call me Jess, it makes no difference to me. I'm seventeen years old, I dance, I love my cat, and I own a 1964 Corvette. I loveee scrapple! (Try it, it's amazing!) My favorite colors are pink and purple, I just repainted my room actually, it's called Youthful Pink but it's more like a light purple... I don't know what to say now.
